Red Bean Ice Cream
A classic Asian dessert: Red Bean Ice Cream. A staple in Asian cuisine.
Ingredients
- 200g boiled sweet red beans
- 300ml cold water or chilled milk (use milk for creamier texture)
- 1–2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk (adjust to taste)
- 1–2 tbsp sugar syrup or honey syrup *optional
- vanilla ice cream
- Pinch of salt (optional, enhances flavour)
Method
STEP 1: BLEND OR STIR
In a bowl or blender, combine:
- Sweetened red beans
- Cold water or milk
- Condensed milk
- Sugar syrup or honey (if using)
- Pinch of salt (if using)
Mix or blend lightly, depending on your texture preference:
For a smooth dessert: blend briefly.
For a traditional chunky version: stir by hand.
STEP 2: ADD ICE
- Pour the mixture over vanilla ice cream in a serving bowl or glass.
- Top with an extra spoonful of red beans or drizzle of condensed milk if desired.
STEP 3: SERVE IMMEDIATELY
Serve cold with a spoon or straw.
