Does Bubble Tea Contain Gelatin?
Bubble tea is a popular drink all over the world.
Bubble tea, known for its delightful combination of tea, milk, and chewy tapioca pearls, has undoubtedly become a global sensation. Whether it's a quick break from work, a social gathering with friends, or a respite from the rigours of academia, bubble tea has cemented its place in the hearts and taste buds of millions. However, amidst its popularity, a common question arises: Does bubble tea contain gelatin?
Does Bubble Tea Contain Gelatin?
The short answer is no, bubble tea does not contain gelatin. In fact we go further than that and have had our products certified either vegan or vegetarian, and given the sensitive nature of bubble tea, we only select suppliers that have received certified their ingredients as halal meaning you can be sure that the bubble teas you drink do not contain gelatin.
The main concern with bubble tea is generally the Tapioca balls or pearls or the popping bobas which resemble other gelatin products, such as sweets and jelly. These balls are actually made from one of tapioca, agar or alginate (a seaweed extract), which are all vegan and Halal.
Is Bubble Tea Vegan?
There are only two reasons that some of our bubble tea products would be certified vegetarian rather than vegan:
- It contains caseinate (milk proteins) which is prevalent in creamer or milk-tea based products. The key exception to this is our vegan creamer
- It contains honey
Given our BRCGS certification, we perform extremely strict audits on all our suppliers to ensure all products are safe and that any claims are substantiated. Our due diligence procedure ensures we check validity of all certificates presented to us, and perform laboratory tests to check for trace amounts of material including: Any of the 14 allergens such as milk, egg, sulphites; animal products including gelatin; any other factors that could compromise the safety and shelf life of the product.
