Taiwanese Treats for Easter

This year, celebrate Easter with a unique twist by incorporating some of our very own Taiwanese snacks into your festivities!

Mochi

Forget Easter eggs, have you tried mochi?

Mochi is a very chewy rice cake made from glutinous rice with filling inside, typically red bean, taro or fruit flavoured. It is made by pounding the rice into a smooth and elastic texture, inserting the filling and then dusting it with cornstarch or potato starch. They can be extremely versatile when it comes to being paired with various foods and drinks. We have various flavours to choose from, including chocolate and strawberry, as well as green tea, peanut and sesame-flavoured mochis.

Sweet Pairings:

Pineapple Cake: The chewiness of mochi is complemented by the sweet pineapple filling of this famous Taiwanese dessert.

Bubble Tea (Boba): Pair mochi with traditional Taiwanese bubble tea, such as matcha, taro, or milk tea.

Sweet Soups: For a warm meal, try pairing mochi with classic Taiwanese sweet soups like taro, green bean, or red bean soup.

Tangyuan : Try serving mochi alongside tangyuan, which is typically filled with sweet sesame or peanut paste.

Savoury Pairings:

Taiwanese Noodles: For a filling and savoury dinner, pair mochi with Taiwanese noodle dishes such as beef noodle soup or dan dan noodles.

Oyster Vermicelli (O-Ah-Mi-Sua): A well-liked Taiwanese noodle soup with a savoury broth and oysters, this dish goes nicely with mochi for a flavourful combination.

Scallion Pancakes: The chewiness of the mochi is complemented by salty and crunchy scallion pancakes.

Taiwanese Dumplings (Shui Jiao): Mochi tastes great with savoury dumplings stuffed with pork, shrimp, or vegetables.

Lu Rou Fan (Braised Pork Rice): For a cosy pairing, try mochi with the traditional Taiwanese dish of braised pork belly over rice.

Grass Jelly

Grass jelly, derived from the leaves of the Chinese mesona plant, is a gelatinous substance known for its dark colour and mildly sweet, herbal flavour. In bubble tea drinks, grass jelly is a popular and versatile ingredient. Typically cut into small, chewable cubes, grass jelly adds a delightful texture to a beverage, creating a contrast with the smoothness of the tea or milk base. It is often combined with various flavoured syrups, milk, and tapioca pearls to create a layered bubble tea experience.
