In a previous post we sent our friend off to try their very first Boba Tea. This time we get a complete boba novice to try a traditional milk tea with tapioca pearls.

Boba tea is the drink trend of 2022 and with unlimited flavour combinations, this looks set to continue. From the traditional to the contemporary boba has fans all over the world. In this series we are sending our friend, a complete boba novice, across the UK to try the full range of bubble tea flavours and ideas, proving there is a boba for everyone! This time, his first milk tea – traditional boba with tapioca pearls.

So what did you go for?

Last time I tried a brightly coloured fruity bubble tea with popping boba and it was delicious! This time around I went to an even bigger boba cafe and was confronted with an even greater selection of tasty treats. I decided to try something new and opted for a more traditional option – my first milk tea.

As someone who grew up in the UK I am used to drinking tea, but this was unlike anything I had ever tried! The tea was rich and finely balanced with the milk. The brown sugar sweetener added a hit of flavour without overpowering the tea. And the traditional tapioca pearls were a truly unique culinary experience!

How did it compare with your previous milk tea?

I thoroughly enjoyed both options and I still can't quite believe they are inspired by the same traditional drink. The fruity flavours and popping boba are a welcome and tasty treat (I now know why my friends have been raving about them!) but the more traditional milk tea is definitely a new staple of my weekly drink runs at the office.

Gone are the days of the same old teas and coffees! Traditional milk tea is definitely here to stay. Even with competition from the infinitely creative world of fruity teas the appeal of a traditional boba will be enduring for many years to come.

What is next?

I feel like I have tried both ends of the bubble tea spectrum. One was a full on assault on the taste buds and the other a softer, more soothing experience.
