Bubble Tea in London

Bubble Tea in London

Bubble tea has exploded in popularity in the UK in recent years and Taipec has been at the forefront of this growth. In the last decade Taipec has grown to become the largest bubble tea supplier in the UK. Nowhere in the UK has the growth in popularity of bubble tea been more evident than London. From Vice News and BBC articles to a whole host of blogs and Instagram accounts, boba in London has cult status.

Here at Taipec we are passionate about sharing our love of bubble tea with the UK. And in this series of posts we are looking at bubble tea across the UK. Starting with bubble tea in London. London is the capital of the UK and its culinary centre, so it comes as no surprise that London is the centre of the UK's bubble tea industry. With a vibrant and diverse population of around 9 million hailing from countries all over the world it is the natural place for bubble tea to get its UK start.

Where to find bubble tea

Bubble tea can be found all over London. From the early days of boba in London concentrated around the bustling Chinatown area you can now find boba in just about every corner of London. From Kingston to Harrow and Stratford to Bromley (and everywhere in-between!) there isn't a high street in London where you can't get a bubble tea. So, let's take a look around the London bubble tea scene.

Chinatown

Chinatown is the centre as South-east Asian cuisine and is the natural place to look for London's best bubble tea. Wandering through the crowded streets of Chinatown it is impossible to miss the groups of people wandering through the streets clutching brightly coloured boba. From classic milky tea to the most vibrant popping boba, London is the boba place to be. With that in mind, let's look at three of our favourite boba shops in Chinatown.

1 – Cuppacha

Cuppacha bubble tea is a landmark of Chinatown and is regularly packed with customers. With a bright exterior and even brighter boba, Cuppacha is one of our favourite boba shops. And in a sign of the times, you can now get your fix of Cuppacha on Deliveroo too.

2 – Happy Lemon

Staying on Newport Court in the centre of Chinatown we find Happy Lemon. Happy Lemon is another favourite of ours (and right next door to Cuppacha!), serving a wide range of drinks to every corner of the boba market. Happy Lemon is a staggering example of the growth of bubble tea internationally, with branches in over 100 cities worldwide. If you ever find yourself in Chinatown, be sure to check out one of our favourite boba shops.

3 – May's Sweet Bites

Heading over to the other side of Chinatown we find May's Sweet Bites. Although not a boba shop, May's serves a wide range sweet treats, desserts, and bubble teas. May's is a perfect example of how bubble tea is a great pairing for snacks and sweet treats.
